20 Years of the Illmatic Celebration

Us here at Synovus Bank Amphitheater are SO excited to welcome Nas to our stage as we celebrate a special cinematic and symphonic rendition of Nas’ legendary tape, The Illmatic. Guaranteed to be a once in a lifetime performance, Nas will be combining his eclectic rhyme scheme with the encapsulating sounds of the orchestra - guaranteeing that we will be amazed, blown away, and reminiscing about the old days in a heartbeat.

Nas is one of the most commercially successful rappers in the game over his career that spans the last four decades, true, but he’ll also be considered one of the best for generations to come for his effortless flows and massively encapsulating beats. There aren’t many who score about his lyrical talent, and his dedication to the game has been cemented since he officially hit the scene back in 1992. Immediately upon signing Nas released the Illmatic - okay you coming like that huh! The album has been added to The Library of Congress’s National Recording Registry, and many consider it one of the greatest hip hop records of all time. The album went platinum quickly - and propelled his next album to spend weeks atop the Billboard 200. There Nas entered the goat conversation before he was even thirty. And now, a few decades on and with lots less to prove but all the success in the world to show - Nas is ready for his victory laps.

The Atlanta Philharmonic is just the latest one of Nas’s symphonic collaborations in which they will work to perform and interpret his music for the diverse Atlanta audience. He began performing with orchestras and symphonic bands back in 2018 with the National Symphony Orchestra in D.C., and just as recently as last Autumn with the Las Vegas Philharmonic as he performed Illmatic with the crew. We can only speculate what mix of songs and energy Nas will bring out from the archive during the show with the Atlanta Philharmonic - but we’re hoping for a mix of classic new Nas and old tunes as he shows his range and reign over the American rap scene from his madly successful career.
