Sarah McLachlan took the world by surprise as she unveiled her first album of new & original material in 11 years, taking shape as "Better Broken". She's marked her first original material (in a full album) in over a decade. Fans who patiently waited for her big comeback were delighted to see her craft a whole album once more. 

Sarah McLachlan's huge success dates back to 1997 when her best-selling album "Surfacing" came out. This record allowed her to win two (out of four nominations) Grammys and four Juno Awards. A member of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, she's truly one of the most respected and celebrated names in music hailing from Canada—whose hits have impacted hearts around the globe.

Did you now? The singer had always played music since she was young, playing the ukulele at four. With music running through her veins, she studied classical guitar , classical piano, and took up voice lessons. Professionally trained by the Maritime Conservatory of Music, she's a well-rounded soul when it comes to every single note. Though she's clasically trained, could you believe that she fronted a rock band in high school? Well, it only proves her dynamic ability when it comes to her own music.

"When I started to work on the album I thought this might be my last record, so I owed it to myself to step out of my comfort zone," she shared with GRAMMY.com. "It was really important for me to come to a place with this record where I felt brave enough — and confident enough — to speak my mind, perhaps, more directly than I ever have in the past."
